Overview

Story

Xinduqiao is known as the photographer’s paradise of the Sichuan-Tibet highway — a broad river valley of poplars, meadows and shifting plateau light. The road station serves this passage: long, low halls under pitched roofs gather parking, food, market stalls and rest around a riverside common, with camping grounds and viewing lawns extending toward the water.

The architecture borrows the horizontal calm of the valley. Deep eaves shelter arcades on both sides; stone bases anchor the buildings against the open landscape; and the roofscape, seen from the highway, settles into the line of the hills behind.
